The mission of the City of Gray’s Water Department is to provide safe drinking water and reliable public sewerage service to our customers through strong financial management, maintenance of our infrastructure, superior customer service and progressive leadership while meeting the ever-increasing challenges of continual growth and protecting our natural environment.
The City of Gray Water Department provides water and sewer, to a limited extent, to residents of the City and in areas of unincorporated Jones County and has a growing customer base of more than 3,300.
The Department is a division of the City government and reports to the Mayor and Council and is an enterprise fund, which means it receives no money from property taxes and must rely on revenues from water and sewer sales to operate. Enterprise Funds are used to account for operations financed and operated in a manner similar to private business. The City of Gray’s intent is that all costs associated with providing water and sewer service to the general public are financed and recovered through water use charges. As important as providing quality customer service, fiscal responsibility and safe reliable product and services, the Department also is responsible for planning for orderly development and growth.

The Streets and Signs Department staff is dedicated to providing Customer friendly service while maintaining the roads, streets, rights-of-ways and signs within the City limits. In this mobile society, safety is a major concern expressed by residents and visitors alike. The Streets and Signs Department strives to maintain the integrity of facilities and roadways for safe public use and travel.

The City of Gray chose Advanced Disposal to provide these services. A single negotiated franchise agreement was entered into that outlines strict guidelines for Advanced Disposal to adhere to. This agreement not only offers us the comfort in knowing that this critical environmental service is being performed per local, state and federal rules and regulations, but also that Advanced Disposal is committed to providing our City with the most professional and reliable services available.
